Athens 2004

The 2004 Paralympic Games, are going to be held in Athens approximately two weeks after the conclusion of the Olympic Games (15 - 30 September 2004), and they are going to be organised by ATHOC- the Organising Committee for the Olympic Games "Athens 2004". Up to now, 18 Sports are included in the Paralympic Games Sports Programme, fourteen of which have identical competition and scoring systems to the Olympic Games: Archery, Athletics, Basketball: ID, Basketball: Wheelchair, Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Football, Judo, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball Sitting, Volleyball Standing, Boccia, Goalball, Power Lifting, WC Rugby 4.000 athletes will participate in the above mentioned Sports and 1.000 Technical officials will attend. All decisions on which Sports remain and which will be included in the Paralympic Sports Programme are taken by the IPC -International Paralympic Committee (http://www.paralympic.org) in cooperation with the International Sports Federations. Should any new Sport is added to the Paralympic Games, all relevant information will appear on our web Site. Finally we would like to inform you that, this is only our interim site. Our permanent site, which is expected to be launched in the year 2001, will have a section dedicated to the Paralympic Games.
